The Design Story
pahadiPahadiIn a small village of Rajasthan, wrapped by the ancient Aravalli hills, Shayari Devi has lived her whole life watching mountains rise and fall against the sky. Now, with age softening her eyesight, Shayari works only in Manchaha. Her hands move by instinct, memory and years of practice. In this rug, the zigzag lines become mountain ridges.The shifting greys and greens feel like hills fading into mist. The repeating shapes rest like small homes nestled in the valley. It looks like a landscape seen from afar, calm and patient. Because the most beautiful things in nature are found on the most difficult paths. Like climbing a hill. Like living a life devoted to one craft. For Shayari, every knot is a step uphill which she chooses to climb everyday.
