Helena Bajaj Larsen

Helena, an interdisciplinary textile designer specializing in hand-printed silk, ventured into rug-making through the Shakti Design Residency, collaborating with Jaipur Rugs to explore this new craft. Drawing inspiration from maps of meaningful geographies into organic linework that emerged as two distinct rugs: Sahasra, a vibrant celebration of instinctive color, and Viveka, a contemplative tonal study. She integrated silk and wool through hand-dyeing, embroidery, and textural play. blending silk’s sheen with wool’s matte texture, hand-dyeing yarns for multi spools, and integrating Jaipur-crafted metallic elements. By merging hand-knotted sections, flat weaves, and embroidery, Helena’s rugs became tactile narratives of resilience, collaboration, and the alchemy of tradition and innovation.
