The Gilded Age Collection
Fueled by an insatiable curiosity, New York designer Peter D’Ascoli has spent over four decades traveling the world researching decorative arts. His journey began at the Fashion Institute of Technology in Manhattan, where his formal training in Textile Design laid the foundation for a lifelong love of craft. It was his early work with handcrafted textiles for the Indian government that ignited his enduring passion for the art and culture of India. D’Ascoli further expanded his experience and knowledge as he worked with brands like Diane von Furstenberg and Schumacher to deepen his understanding of the delicate interplay between tradition and innovation. His work, celebrated globally, is renowned for its unique fusion of technology, traditional ornamentation, and exotic cultural influences. Rooted in history and honoring the decorative arts of diverse cultures, Peter’s designs evoke a sense of familiarity and nostalgia, conjuring an heirloom quality through iconic design archetypes, attracting a sophisticated following among the world’s most discerning fashion and interior connoisseurs.

The collection features classic chintz florals scaled large and small mixed with wild cat patterns, paisleys, and neoclassical motifs are all reminiscent of Hollywood Regency and the prewar Paris flea market. These handcrafted rugs are designed for 21st Century homes being centered on sources from the 19th century as seen through a filter of the 20th century.

Belle Epoque
Inspired by the opulent chintz floral designs which originated in India in the 16th Century were popularised in Europe in the late 19th century. The Chintz, a woodblock printed, painted, stained or glazed calico textile is sometimes reminiscent with an overtly feminine charm with busily patterned floral fabric taking over tapestries in the interior world while also being a sophisticated, old-world nod to the intricacies of British & European living. The Belle Epoque hand-knotted floral rugs showcase a dramatic large scale tonal silhouette on bold backgrounds giving this classic subject a contemporary twist.

Eugenie
The era of Emperor Napoleon III of France or also known as the Second Empire Period in France was much popular for the exuberant floral patterns. The style of this era greatly influenced the architecture and the decoration in Europe as well as North America. The collection is named Eugenie as a dedication to the wife of Emperor Napoleon III of France and the rugs typify the exuberant floral patterns of that era. The complexity of the design is amplified by the sculpted effect of the carved pile through a process known as “Gultarash” which means finding the flower. This process allows the design of the carpet to get high-definition quality while also highlighting its beauty.

Malmaison
An ode to Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte’s stylish home, Malmaison, the collection is a quintessential neoclassic design reminiscent of the Empire style of Napoleon I. The architecture of the era is defined by symmetry and fuses the modern and classical features of architecture. The handcrafted rugs in the Malmaison collection feature garlands and stylized Greek motifs framed by leopard skin motifs. The bright hues with the clean elegant lines and an uncluttered appearance bring to attention the fusion of two different worlds of patterns and motifs fusing them as one. A perfect choice as contemporary abstract art, the rugs from the Malmaison collection bring the old world charm of the neoclassical era, designed for today.

Marcellin
The collection Marcellin brings to your homes the revolutionary designs by Peter D’Ascoli inspired by Madeleine Castaing, the highly regarded French decorator and interior designer. The hand-knotted rugs in this collection feature her love for these three hues: bright red, sky-blue and the green of gardens. Designer Peter D’Ascoli recalls that the designs, patterns, hues and motifs of this collection are a style of the great French decorator Madeleine Castaing because it is a design that she would covet. Small stylized paisley motifs set in a decorative trellis framed by a classic ornamental geometric border rendered in the strong, clear colors favored by the Grande Dame of French style.

Kashmir
The Indian artistry and the highly regarded Kashmiri craftsmanship is not an unknown fact to the world. Popularised in the 18th Century in France, the paisley patterns have been an important part of the European decorating tradition ever since the frenzy for Kashmiri shawls experienced towards the end of the century. In the 19th and early 20th century these motifs were reinterpreted, and the Kashmir collection has been woven to life in the 21st century with the same vision, colours which range from brilliant blue and red to more subtle white and cream. The beauty of the all-over paisley pattern hand-woven delicately is a detail appreciated by the keen eyes.
