JR Residency is an initiative of the Jaipur Rugs Foundation - the social development arm of the Jaipur Rugs. We invite national and international contemporary artists, designers, and creative thinkers to delve into the evolving language of craft. Rooted in tradition yet open to the experimental and multidisciplinary space, the program offers a platform for material exploration, cultural storytelling, and artistic innovation. Working alongside master artisans, participants engage in an immersive hands-on experience and co-creation that fosters a dialogue between generational wisdom and contemporary creative practice.

What we facilitate

Residents are provided with dedicated studio space, access to our curated design library, and either private or shared accommodations. Tailored project support is offered by our in-house team to ensure participants have the tools, materials, and guidance necessary to bring their ideas to life.

FAQ

We provide studio access, accommodations, and daily meals at our Jaipur campus. If your project requires research or travel to rural areas in Rajasthan, we extend logistical support based on your proposal’s intent. For specific details or questions, write to: jresidency@jaipurrugs.com

Travel to and from Jaipur is participant-funded. However, if support is essential, you may write to us at jresidency@jaipurrugs.com for thoughtful consideration by our review team.

Applicants should have a minimum of five years of active practice. Formal degrees are not essential, those with hands-on experience and a strong interest in textiles and fibre are warmly encouraged.

Rajasthan offers a warm, sunlit climate year-round. August to March are especially pleasant. Summers are brighter and drier, therefore, light clothing, hydration, and sun protection ensure comfort amid the desert’s distinct charm.

Jaipur Rugs supports rug production for selected projects, allowing participants to focus on their vision. For other mediums, guidance and logistical support may be offered based on proposal-specific requirements.

The residency runs year-round without a fixed deadline. Studio location at Jaipur or village-based will be thoughtfully determined through pre-residency dialogue, aligning with each participant’s proposal, practice, and preferred working environment.
