The Design Story

Anginat
Laali Devi and Mali began this rug with large, assertive forms, letting them slowly dissolve into smaller, more intricate patterns. The surface is divided into many sections, each holding its own rhythm. Mali and Laali Devi said that, at first, they got confused seeing the muted and tonal colours as they were used to weaving with bright colours. But somehow, that confusion turned into excitement, and they got ready to take up a challenge. From flower motifs to chain patterns, from tiny squares to huge diamonds, this rug is full of more than fifty colours and countless motifs. The closer you observe the carpet, the more motifs you will find. To honour this intricacy, they named the carpet “Anginat,” which means “Uncountable” - for the motifs, colours, and the shifts that their mind took to create this masterpiece.
