The Design Story

Din Chatte
“Every day begins the same, yet never feels identical,” says Kavita, the artist behind this Manchaha rug. A diagonal road cuts through the carpet, bright and alive. It is the path Kavita walks daily. The paths don’t move straight in the same way life doesn’t. Scattered across the surface are small, independent motifs, like thoughts that come and go while hands stay busy on the loom. Tea cups return again and again, marking her favorite chai breaks when work pauses and family gathers. Earthen pots sit quietly, holding continuity. They have been there longer than the carpet itself. Firecrackers burst in soft wool, marking days when something special happens for no grand reason, only because joy arrived unannounced. At the top live the most literal truths: her wardrobe, her house, exactly as they are. Beneath them, a butterfly rests, just present. Like beauty that shows up without being invited. Again, in the corner, a kettle and cups repeat themselves. Because some comforts return every day. “Din Chatte” (The Passing of Days) expresses how days move, slip by, or get spent—sometimes quietly, sometimes marked by small moments. It is made of days that look ordinary when lived, but extraordinary when seen together.
