The Design Story
sita phalSita PhalJyoti often weaves what she loves most. This time, her inspiration came from something sweet and familiar, her favorite winter fruit, "sita phal", the custard apple. She imagined the fruit in her own way. Tiny dotted motifs spread across the rug like its many seeds, while soft, flowing forms carry the feeling of its sweetness. The design slowly grew, just like the fruit itself. It was winter when she was weaving this Manchaha. Knowing how much she loves sita phal, her family members would bring home ripe, sweet fruits every other day. As she sat at the loom, eating and smiling to herself. Somewhere between those quiet moments, the sweetness slipped into the yarn too. At the top left, small motifs appear like honey bees, as if they too have arrived to taste the fruit. This rug is the memory of a season, a fruit, and the simple joy of sweetness woven into thread.
