The Design Story
sanyogSanyogWhen Santosh Devi thought about this rug, she imagined rivers on their way to the sea. She thought about how they travel for a long time, taking different paths, passing through villages, fields, and stones. Some move fast, some slow. But in the end, they all meet. She chose calm blues and greys, with a little warmth in between, like light catching water in the evening. From the top, the rug opens into many diagonal sections, each suggesting a river moving in its own direction. As they travel downward, these separate flows slowly come together, meeting at the ocean at the bottom. For Santosh, this rug is about how different lives, like different rivers, flow into one larger place and find rest. Upon finishing weaving, she named this rug “Sanyog,” meaning “Confluence.”
