The Design Story
dhun ki sairDhun Ki SairFor Mooli Devi, weaving is a practice of intention rather than livelihood alone. Her Manchaha reflects a desire to be recognised through her work and to translate lived experience into form. This journey took her to the Dhun Artist Residency, located within Dhun—a 500-acre regenerative neighborhood near Jaipur that is transforming barren land into a biodiverse, self-sustaining landscape through ecological thinking and design. During her month-long residency, Mooli worked in close proximity to the land. The presence of water bodies, cultivated fields, and open green expanses echoed her village, yet the context was distinct—here, her role was to observe, interpret, and respond through weaving. After returning home, these impressions continued to inform her work. The Manchaha carries expansive ploughed fields, a multicolored water lake, and layered green planes. Along one edge, structured, architectural forms appear, referencing installations and models developed by Central Saint Martins students at Dhun, and the exchanges that unfolded between them and the weavers. Dhun Ki Sair is a documentation of movement through place, where landscape and memory are translated into a contemporary Manchaha.
