The Design Story
jod-bejodJod-BejodThis rug is a delightful creation by the celebrated mother-daughter duo, Meera and Bugali, whose shared sense of humor and imagination weave their way in every Manchaha rug they create. Titled “Jod-Bejod”, meaning ‘Matched and Mismatched ’— the rug playfully captures their contrasting styles and creative chemistry. It began with Bugali, who started weaving whimsical leaf motifs that looked almost like 2D sketches. On the left side, she introduced a series of abstract diagonal lines, which she amusingly described as a spider’s legs and web, quirky, deformed, yet intriguingly expressive. On the right, her mother Meera took over, weaving delicate white flowers, traditional, and grounded. This was a beautiful counterpoint to Bugali’s wild imagination. When Bugali took a brief break from the loom, Meera filled the rug with her traditional rhythm. Colorful circular motifs that she humorously called food for the spider, continuing her daughter’s story in her own way. After a few days, Bugali returned to finish the rug with her signature glitch pattern — the same playful motif she began with, bringing the piece full circle.
