The Design Story
samudraSamudraSamudra (Ocean) is one of the most intricate carpets ever woven by Mahesh, an artisan from Dausa who sees color through a rare lens. With every carpet, he rethinks how colors should settle, choosing a new approach each time and letting that guide his weaving. For this Manchaha, he chose the Samudra—the vast ocean. He believes that something immense is always created drop by drop. “Boond boond se banta hai saagar.” In the same way, a carpet is born from the slow rhythm of threads, each knot holding the artisan’s breath, patience, and presence. Mahesh set out to weave the movement of ocean waves. Day after day, he stayed with this vision, building a boundless sea and the life that surrounds it: trees growing along the shore, flocks of birds crossing the ocean from distant lands, shells and newly formed stones resting on the coastline, and stretches where the eye meets nothing but infinity. The ocean calls to us when we seek calm. There is no melody more soothing than the sound of the sea, Mahesh believes.
