The Design Story
hariyali teejHariyali TeejWhen Sundari received the green and blue yarns for this Manchaha, her mind went straight to Hariyali Teej, the monsoon festival she has celebrated since childhood. It’s the day when women dress in green, honour Goddess Parvati and Lord Shiva, visit a nearby lake for pooja, and tie swings to the trees so they can sway together in the breeze. This whole celebration is woven into this rug. At the bottom, she began with falling rain. Above it, she added bangles, a small reminder of how everyone dresses up for the day. She has also woven a leheriya saree- a traditional wavy-patterned saree that they wear during the monsoon season. For Sundari, Teej is about togetherness — women from the village gathering under one sky, celebrating the season and each other. The rug carries that feeling. It feels festive, familiar, and full of shared joy.
