The Design Story

caminantes by lorenzo

Drawing inspiration from his family history, artist Lorenzo Vitturi retraces his parents' trajectory from Venice to Peru and back, in the collection "Caminantes", creating a map of the journey he embarked on to rediscover his mixed heritage. Every shape in this collection is connected to a specific moment or encounter with a material, an object, or a person that Vitturi chanced upon along the way and documented with photographs. These were then transformed by the skilled hands of the weavers at Jaipur Rugs into fragments of tapestry, or into fused glass created in his Murano studio. Each encounter, whether with animate or inanimate elements, has helped him reconnect with his family history. He uses the alchemical power of transforming raw materials to forge a deeper connection with a narrative that, while deeply personal, also touches on the complex relationship between the “Old World” and the “New World.”
