The Design Story
meri zameenMeri ZameenWhen Meena ji received the sand-coloured yarns for this Manchaha, her thoughts went straight to the hills of Karana, a landscape she has loved for as long as she can remember. The mountains hold a deep place in her heart, shaped by the time she spent there with her family. So, she chose to turn those memories into a rug. At the base, she wove layer upon layer of mountain ranges. As the rug rises, the scene opens into the life of her village, marked by natural forms - clouds, zig-zag lines, and diamond shapes drawn from the land around her. Midway through, Meena ji introduced her favourite colour, blue. She shaped it into a flowing diamond motif, letting the lines move like river tributaries finding their way forward. For Meena ji, this rug holds memory, belonging, and the comfort of home. When she finished weaving it, she named it “Meri Zameen,” which means “My Land”.
