The Design Story
nayaabDesign Story
Dragons across cultures hold great symbolism and are regarded as a symbol of prosperity and good luck. The Karabakh rugs with dragon motifs are commonly designed with heavy curving bands that frame a centre medallion. The medieval blue and russet hues bring alive the bold design on the rug and make for a prized possession. Dating back to 1920, this 3"x5" rug is the perfect piece that would be a part of narrative tales both as a floor covering and as a wall tapestry.
City Story
Chibag, a region in the Caucasus associated with Azerbaijan produced handmade rugs which showcased a vibrant colour palette, intricate design, and a long pile. The rugs of this region showcased patterns like plants, flowers, geometric patterns, and often animal motifs like eagles and dragons. Also known as Karabakh rugs, the ground colour often on these rugs is usually seen in a deep tone like black or red, allowing the motifs and design to stand-out. The Karabakh rugs often have a creative or heraldic stamp to identify which village created the particular rug.
