Behta Baadal
Prem Devi is an extraordinary artist who lives atop a mountain. “Who needs a TV when you can watch nature unfold before you?” she says with a smile. Her work is intricate and deeply inspired by the ever-changing views she witnesses from her mountain home, shifting seasons, drifting clouds, and the rhythm of time itself. Her Manchaha rug, Behta Baadal, was woven during the monsoon, her favorite season. She recalls, “The clouds burst open, releasing rain that flows down the mountains.” The rug beautifully captures this moment: clouds torn apart by strong winds, rain cascading down the slopes, and wild vegetation soaking in the magic of nature. Amidst this graceful spectacle, a pair of peacocks rest quietly on slender branches — serene, still, as if watching the whole scene unfold before them.
