The Design Story

Jodhpur Ki Bawari
Maina Devi and Shishupal traveled to Jodhpur for the first time, where their work was featured at the inaugural edition of Jodhpur Art Week. Wandering through the beautiful old city, they came across a stepwell where they could sit and observe the life around them. They watched people jump into the water, creating ripples that danced across the Bawari, noticed the schools of fish swimming below, and saw visitors coming to feed them. Inspired by these moments, they wove their experiences into a Manchaha rug. The rug captures not only the movement of the water and the life within it but also the stone houses and the essence of Jodhpur’s old city. This lived experience found its form in their creation, which they named “Jodhpur Ki Bawari” (Stepwell of Jodhpur).
