The Design Story
badalBadalLed by Kamali, the self-appointed captain of colors and compositions, the loom is always filled with instructions, jokes, small arguments, and laughter. She guides the group on what shades to pick and which motifs to try, and this playful control often turns into light banter that keeps the days lively. When the yarns for this Manchaha arrived, everyone rushed to grab the bright shades. It was winter, and these colors felt like warmth in their hands. The weavers divided the yarns quickly. Someone got more of red, someone more orange, and they began weaving instinctively. The neutral tones were left aside. By the time three-fourth of the rug was done, the bright colors were over. Only then did they bring in the softer, lighter shades, which slowly spread like fog across the carpet. Winter mornings in the village are misty and slow. The weavers come late, watch the clouds lift, and weave as sunlight gradually fills the day. These changing skies inspired the forms of "Badal" (Clouds). Kamali finished the rug with her signature Kalash motif, marking it as their own. They named their Manchaha, Badal (Clouds), a carpet woven with warmth and shared laughter.
